Basic Guidelines of Wire Rope Inspection | Assembly Specialty

The table below shows the number of allowable wire breaks per crane type. The inspector must know the ASME standard for the equipment being inspected. The number of broken wires on the outside of the wire rope is an indication of its general condition and whether or not it must be considered for replacement.

ISO 16625:2013 specifies the minimum practical design factors, Z p, for the various classifications of mechanism, rope types, rope duties and types of spooling and demonstrates how these are used in the determination of the minimum breaking force of the wire rope.
